Udo Kamps studied Mathematics at the RWTH Aachen University in Germany, where he also earned his PhD and Habilitation in Mathematics. After a period at the Department of Statistics at the University of Dortmund, Germany, supported by a Heisenberg grant from the German Research Foundation, he joined the University of Oldenburg in 1997 as a Professor. From 2004 to 2025, he held the Chair of Statistics at the Institute of Statistics at RWTH Aachen University, where he is affiliated as a Retired Professor since October 2025. His fields of work are Applied and Mathematical Statistics, Stochastic Modelling, Reliability Theory, Models for Ordered Data, and Renewal Theory. To date, he has supervised 24 PhD students in these areas. From 2007 to 2016, he served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Metrika (Springer). Since 2000, he has been an elected member of the International Statistical Institute.
